Dear Brother and Sister Buddhists and friends of Buddhism, As you know, for generations Buddhists in Europe and friends have dreamed of a European Buddhist temple worthy of the great awaken-ing to the teaching of the Buddha on this continent and in the entire world. A temple which would welcome all schools and tendencies of Buddhists and friends, whether European or foreign, resident or visitor. Not only a building, this temple would be the home of all engaged or interested persons and communities, representing all Buddhists and friends everywhere. As Buddhists of Switzerland, we have long hoped that this country would
be the site of such a temple. Geneva, international city, home of the
United Nations European Headquarters, and numerous other international
organisations both governmental and nongovernmental, with its large
international population of both officials and private persons, is the
obvious choice for Switzerland’s first purpose built Buddhist temple. Now here’s good news! Such a project is now well under way! The site
has been chosen; the land has been donated by the Canton of Geneva;
approval for construction has been obtained; architectural plans have
been drawn and approved, and sufficient funds collected. There is
widespread support for this project both among Buddhists and friends, as
well as all other elements in Geneva’s region. Since this magnificent new temple, resolutely modern and European in
conception, would be your temple as well that of all other interested
persons, we are now writing to share the good news and to offer you the
satisfaction of active participation in realizing this project. An expression of interest and financial support however modest will
assure you of continuing information of our progress, as well as the
opportunity to share the intense moments ahead as the project
progresses, until the great day of inauguration in the presence of

des générations, vous le savez, les Bouddhistes d’Europe et leurs
amis songent à un temple Bouddhique européen digne du grand intérêt
suscité, sur notre continent et dans le monde entier, par
l’enseignement du Bouddha. Un temple qui accueillerait toutes les écoles
et tendances des Bouddhistes et de leurs amis, aussi bien Européens que
d’ailleurs, résidents ou visiteurs. Ce temple ne serait pas qu’un bâtiment,
mais le foyer de toutes les personnes et communautés, engagées ou intéressées,
représentant tous les Bouddhistes et leurs amis où qu’ils soient. En
tant que Bouddhistes de Suisse, nous avons longtemps espéré qu’un
tel temple surgirait dans ce pays. Genève, ville internationale, siège
de l’Office européen des Nations Unies et de nombreuses autres
organisations gouvernementales et non gouvernementales, avec son
importante population internationale de fonctionnaires et de privés,
est le choix qu’il faut pour le premier temple Bouddhique de Suisse
construit dans ce but. Voici
donc une bonne nouvelle: un tel projet est actuellement à un stade
avancé de réalisation! L’endroit a été choisi; le terrain a été
offert par le Canton de Genève; l’autorisation de construire a été
obtenue; les plans architecturaux ont été dessinés et approuvés; des
fonds suffisants ont été récoltés. Il existe un large soutien à ce
projet, aussi bien parmi les Bouddhistes et leurs amis que parmi tous
les autres milieux de la région genevoise. Puisque
ce temple magnifique, de conception résolument moderne et européenne,
serait votre temple, comme celui de toutes les autres personnes intéressées,
nous nous adressons à vous pour vous faire part de la bonne nouvelle et
pour vous proposer une participation active et satisfaisante à la réalisation
de ce projet. Un
témoignage d’intérêt et un soutien financier, même modeste, vous
permettront d’être régulièrement informés de nos progrès. Ils
vous offriront aussi la possibilité de partager les moments intenses
qui nous attendent, au fur et à mesure de l’avancement du projet,

Republik und des Kantons Genf uns grosszügist einen Baugrund, in
Grand-Saconnex (zu reduzierter Miete) zur Verfügung stellen wird, um
uns die Möglichkeit zu bieten ein neues buddhistisches Zentrum zu eröffnen. Nach mehreren Jahren der Vorbereitung, haben wir kürzlich die
Baubewilligung erhalten. Architekt, Daniel Rinaldi, stellt uns zur
Verwirklichung dieses Projekts sein Talent zur Verfügung. Dieses Zentrum wird ein Ort der Begegnung, der Lehre und des Praktikums
aller buddhistischen Ströme sein. Eine vielfältige inter-religieuse
Bibliothek wird allen Wissensdurstigen, Buddhisten und Interessenten zur
Verfügung stehen. Alle Buddhist-Gruppen haben sich zusammengetan, um ein Komitee zu bilden,
dessen Aufgabe es sein wird, die nötigen Fonds zu beschaffen. Wir
werden Sie gerne und regelmässig über die weitere Entwicklung dieses
Programmes, sowie über Konstruktionsfortschritte informieren. Diesbezüglich wären wir für jede finanzielle Unterstützung dankbar,
um diesen neuen wichtigen Grundstein zu legen. Wir benötigen
freiwillige Helfer und Mitarbeiter für die verschiedensten Aktivitäten,

Caro/ Caro/a fratello/sorella Buddista, Come sa, da generazioni i Buddisti europei e i
simpatizzanti immaginano un tempio Buddista europeo degno della
considerazione che l’insegnamento Buddista suscita sul nostro continente
e in tutto il mondo. Un tempio che accoglierebbe tutte le scuole e
tendenze Buddiste, così come i simpatizzanti, europei o no, residenti o
in visita. Questo
tempio non sarebbe soltanto un edificio, ma pure la casa di tutte le
persone e comunità impegnate o interessate, rappresentanti tutti i
Buddisti e simpatizzanti dovunque. In
qualità di Buddisti in Svizzera, speravamo da tempo che questo paese
fosse il luogo prescelto per un tale tempio. Ginevra, città
internazionale, sede europea delle Nazioni Unite e di numerose altre
organizzazioni governative e non governative, con la sua importante
popolazione internazionale di funzionari e di privati, è una scelta
evidente per la creazione del primo tempio Buddista appositamente
costruito. Ed ecco una buona notizia: un tale progetto è ora in
fase avanzata di realizzazione! Il luogo è stato scelto; il terreno, offerto dal
Cantone di Ginevra; la licenzia edilizia, ottenuta; l’architettura,
disegnata e approvata; dei fondi sufficenti raccolti. Questo progetto gode
di un largo appoggio tra Buddisti e simpatizzanti, così come tra tutti
gli altri ambienti di Ginevra e dintorni. Dato
che questo magnifico tempio, di concezione decisamente moderna ed europea,
sarà il Suo tempio e quello di tutte le persone interessate, ci
permettiamo di comunicarLe questa buona notizia e di proporLe una
partecipazione attiva e soddisfacente alla realizzazione di questo
progetto. Un
cenno di interesse e un sostegno finanziario, anche modesto, Le
permetteranno di essere regolarmente informata dell’avanzamento del
